Whether you are a mother or single lady, the entrepreneurial spirit can run in your blood. It doesn’t take a huge business plan to start your next multi million dollar company. Let’s dive in and meet Christina, another influential women of Colour in business.
Hello. My name is Christina. I am a wife, mother of 3 beautiful children, and the Co-founder of Honey Body & Beauty, Honey Body And Beauty is an all natural and organic cosmetic and skincare line.
When did you get bit by the entrepreneurial bug? Or did you start your business off as a hobby?
I always knew I wanted to be my own boss, it was just a matter of when. In 2017 I fell ill and I used beauty products as a means of self-care which really helped in my healing process. At that point I decided to start my own brand.
Tell us about your purpose with your business.
The purpose of our company is to drive self-care but in a holistic way. With your skin being your largest organ, we tend to take it for granted and feed it with many harsh chemicals. So our aim is to create healthy skincare products that’s are fun and enjoyable to everyone.
What does being a woman of color mean to you? How does this if any affect your current business?
Being a woman of color, especially in business has been so powerful and uplifting. So far we have gotten a lot of support from people of all ethnicities which gives us so much drive to keep going.
What’s the most fulfilling part about being an entrepreneur during a time where women are deciding to stand out as a subculture with movements like “Me too” and “Women in Politics”?
Its such an empowering moment to witness and be a part of. To think just a few decades back we couldn’t even vote and now we’re leaders of the country, business women and so many more hats. I’m so glad I get to be apart of this monumental movement.
What has been the biggest change in your specific industry since you’ve started?
We haven’t seen much change since we just started.
What has been your biggest challenge thus far in business? Was this your first go around with Honey Body & Beauty?
Our biggest challenge right now would be marketing . So far its been a little difficult driving traffic via social media but I know we’ll get where we want to be in due time. Wo officially launched in November 2018 so this is our first go around.
What are you most proud of within your business?
So I think my most proud moment so far was when my oldest daughter (6) came home one day and said one of her classmates had one of our chapsticks and she told them her mommy made that. Just to know that she recognizes and is proud of what I’m doing is the greatest feeling.
Living in a digital age we are constantly reminded about our counterparts and competitors, how do you handle these reminders? How do you stave off imposter syndrome?
I honestly just have to remind myself that everyone’s journey is different. I can only stay in my lane keep going and not watch what the next is doing. Our brand and products will speak for itself.
Like myself, you are a mother and you’re currently running a successful business. How do you find time to manage your home life while maintaining healthy familial relationships?
Well for starters I am so blessed to have an active spouse. My husband is my biggest supporter and such a great father. He’s very hand on with our children so when I have events or have to make product he steps in. If I can’t then he will vice versa. Its all about balance. It’s hard but we make it work.
What has been the best tool you’ve used, whether it be book, inspirational figure, digital service, program etc, that has really helped you in the entrepreneurial world?
I follow a few inspirational women on IG. One of which sticks out is @_thesixfigurechick_. She has great content on how to improve and grow your business. And her background story is so inspiring.
What can we expect from Honey Body & Beauty in the near future? Any new business goals and ventures? How can my readers keep up with your journey?
Let’s just say Honey Body & Beauty is just getting started. I don’t want to say too much but yes new ventures really soon. Just be on the look out for a hair line.
Share a few encouraging words with a fellow woman of color who is seeking to start her own business but is weary due to the oppression she may feel.
Thank you so much for taking the time out to share your business with us. We are looking forward to seeing Honey Body & Beauty grow in the future!
