Best At Home Teeth Whitening- Nearly Perfect Smiles

If you don’t know me by now, then you should know that curry and tea are two things I probably could not live without. It is impossible to escape my Jamaican culture whether I am here living in the states or taking a brief hiatus in Japan. Most of the food that connects me to my culture have a staining property which never really bothered me until I realized that these flavor filled foods don’t do well with white surfaces. Have you every spilled curry on a counter top, or a substance like it, and struggled to get the stain out? Imagine training to do to the same scrubbing process to your teeth. Seems like hard work, right? Due to my ignorance in these past 26 years, I never thought my teeth could stain as the dentist usually just compliments how straight and healthy my teeth, while completely overlooking the fact that my teeth could be whiter. Don’t get me wrong, my teeth are not highly stained but who wouldn’t want pearly whites if given the opportunity? I have never tried any type of teeth whitening kit before, and in fact, the most initiative I have ever taken to even whitening my teeth is to just brush really hard and pray for the best. With my wishful thinking ending in failures, you can imagine how excited I was when Smile Brilliant contacted me to do a review on their teeth whitening kit. I was assured that this whitening system was super flexible and that’s all I needed to hear to proceed. What do you receive? This home whitening kit was cool to use in my opinion. I expected to receive some sort of teeth whitening strips like you see on the commercials, but Smile Brilliant made me feel a little more important. When you first go online you choose which whitening kit works best for you. If that means you need a kit that will help with super dark stains, there is a kit specifically set up for that. I received the kit for light stains which include: · 3 professional teeth whitening gel tubes · 3 desensitizing gel tubes · 3 sets of impression materials (catalyst & base paste) Before starting the process the company sends you a clay mold and impression trays to fit both your upper and bottom teeth outlines to use for the treatment. Once the company receives the impressions, they then send you back your own custom-fitted teeth trays. The whitening trays fit like a glove! Seriously!!! I was amazed by the outline and structure of the impressions as the initial mold captured my teeth perfectly! How does it work? There are five simple steps needed to have this whitening kit work its magic. 1. Apply ¼ of the whitening gel tube to the front of the bottom and top teeth impression. 2. After applying gel to the impressions dry teeth to the best of your ability and insert impressions for 45mins-3hours. A gradual build in time is suggested. 3. Remove the whitening trays and wash them thoroughly and set to dry. While trays our drying, proceed to brushing your teeth with toothpaste to get rid of excess gel. 4. Apply 1/4 of the desensitizing gel to the front of the whitening trays and insert the trays to dry teeth for 15-50 minutes. 5. Remove and rinse the tray. Spit out and excess gel you may have left in your mouth but DO NOT eat or drink anything for 30 minutes after the whitening process. The F word…. What I love about this at home whitening kit is its flexibility. After 12 hour shifts, the last thing I want to do is set up and appointment at the dentist to get a whitening treatment. Having a whitening kit right in the comfort of my home is a better fit to match my exhaustion levels. I love that I can do the treatment and cook dinner or even binge watch my corny shows like, Young and Hungry or Orange is the New black on Netflix. Tips for the wise… When I first started this treatment, I can honestly say that it had no effect on my teeth. I was a little deterred from completing the process. When I reached out to customer service and explained that I wasn’t having much luck with the product, Jessica, the representative, inquired about my last cleaning. Truth be told I hadn’t had a cleaning in two years *Covers face with blanket in embarrassment. * After getting my cleaning I could see dramatic differences in the whitening process. Though my teeth didn’t show build up I, had two years’ worth of buildup on my teeth that required a deep cleaning that I have been neglecting. In order to have optimum use of this product make sure you have had a deep cleaning in at least a year before using this product! My final thoughts…. I honestly love this product. Though my results weren’t drastic is does make a difference! Initially the burning that was associated with the whitening gel was a bit unbearable, but once I figured out that using a brush or wet q-tip to spread the gel in the tray can alleviate the sensitivity, it has made the process easier. I can definitely see myself purchasing more gels to help with the whitening process. But wait there’s more….Giveaway Now my Nearly Perfect Peeps, you know that I couldn’t have possibly talked about this great product without having something extra in there for you too right?! Pretty Woman NYC Nail Polish: My Polish Poison

In college I met a young lady who truly introduced me to the concept of self-care. Every Sunday she would come hang out in our dorm room, and we would chat and dread our upcoming week ahead. Something that stood out about her was her consistency! She was consistent in whatever she did which included painting her nails in my room. There would never be a Sunday that passed where her nails would go untouched. My roommate and I never really questioned why she did it, but just admired from afar. One particular Sunday afternoon, I decided to question her persistent nature surrounding adorning her nails. Though I don’t remember the full response I imagine the conversation went something like this: Me: Hey Ericka, why you always doin’ your nails every Sunday? Do they chip fast? Ericka: Nope. You know I really like doing something for myself. Painting my nails soothes me. Me: Ohh! That’s cool Me internally: I gotta try that! (To learn more about my friend Ericka, visit her blog here!) Though, I wasn’t as persistent as Ericka, I always try to manage to paint my nails! I do this to make room for myself. Sometimes the only person who knows you need a break is you, so why not do something that is soothing! My nail polish poison this month is not a brand I usually reach for because it’s more of an up in coming brand. When I first stumbled upon their website while Instagram browsing, I totally fell in love with their concept. Pretty Woman NYC is a 5-free, cruelty free, vegan based company. What does 5-free mean? This means that the company’s products are FREE of the 5 nasty toxins you may find in other brands. These toxins include, Toluene, Camphor, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, & DBP. How could I not be in love with this company? In my previous post, you all should have noticed that I am trying to refrain from unnecessary toxins while I try to live a more holistic lifestyles. These toxins are really hard to avoid in every day products but when given the chance I am sure to take hold of the opportunity to treat my body better. This includes my nails! Pretty Woman LLC sent me four lovely polishes and a designer nail kit to review. Their polishes choice are categorized by collections, and each collection has a set of polishes that somewhat reflect their names. I encourage you to check out all of their collections as the ones I received were only from two of the many different collections they have to offer. (I am not a professional nail artist so the color application may be a bit messy. But I tried my best to stay “in the lines” lol) My nail polish poison this month is not a brand I usually reach for because it’s more of an up in coming brand. When I first stumbled upon their website while Instagram browsing I totally fell in love with their concept. Pretty Woman NYC is a 5-free, cruelty free, vegan based company. Let’s take a look…. Sands N Sunset from the Sand collection I can truly picture myself wearing this polish during the summer as the name is truly fitting for the season. The polish glided on my nails so smoothly and it gave the perfect amount of texture. Sometimes with polishes they can become too grainy and textured which make them hard to spread, however this wasn’t the case. I used this polish with my Sache Vite base coat and sealed it with the same quick dry coat. It lasted for about a week before it started to chip, which is UNHEARD OF for me and my natural nails. The color payoff was good too for a textured polish. I just loved the orange tone it gave when the light hit it. I was weary about the removal because usually with textured polish, removal becomes a pain, but once again, Pretty woman NYC got the win! Removal was a piece of cake! Next up… Coraliscious from the Gelogics collection I really enjoy using gel polishes because of its lasting effects. I recently did a tutorial on how I use my gel polishes here. Check it out if you haven’t already. What makes Pretty Woman NYS’s gelogic polish so great, is that is cuts out the middle men. There is no UV or primers needed for this polish. Once again the application was really smooth. I did not apply a top or base coat just to see how well the gel adhered to the nail. It did a pretty decent job for a gel polish that only cost 7.99!! I really did get a glassy shine from the polish as it claims so I was a happy camper. The glossy shine is one of the reasons I opt in for Gel polishes over regular polishes. Another great pro to this polish is that the polish can be removed with acetone. And then there was… Green Ceramic from the Ceramics collection I honestly can say that this color is one of my favorite colors. The finish was everything I expected it to be. It wasn’t too matte and wasn’t too shiny. It just gave my nails a nice cute finishing touch. Typically regular polishes are only mediocre in my book but this polish was amazing! It didn’t last a week before chipping, which is expected but I love the smooth texture and the way it applied! A little did go a long way and it was super buildable! Can’t forget… Teal Alpha Jewel from the Gelogics collection So I really wanted to love this polish but out of all of theme I liked it the least. Not because of the color, because the color was gorgeous, it was due to the application. The application was such a struggle. The polish was very clumpy and hard to spread. But once the polish was on it did smooth out and dry fairly

Ole Henriksen’s Balance it all-Oil Control Regimen: Winning Wednesdays

Whats up Nearly Perfect Peeps?! As the summer approaches, your glow up must be past exuberant. It can be tough to get that perfect look without looking greasy and so makeup may not be the solution as July and June hit. In my opinion, in order to get that perfect glow your natural skin care routine has to be perfected! Thanks to Influenster, I was given a complimentary Ole Henriksen’s balanced collection skin care oil control line to review. They went all out with this, because this set not only promotes your glow BUT also controls oil. How can you not have this product line in your life!? If you know me, then you know I struggle with oily skin, and my skin is always ready to fry something. Since I’ve found this line, my skin looks refreshed and the sun naturally bounces off of my face! Let’s take a look at what Ole Henriksen’s set provides:   Find Your Balance- Oil Control Cleanser Balancing Force- Oil Control Toner Counter Balance- Oil Control Hydrator So let us take a gander at what these bad boys are supposed to do. 1. Find Your Balance- Oil Control Cleanser Claims: Find Your Balance Oil Control Cleanser reduces excess oil and deeply cleanses pores. Formulated with Green Fusion Complex™, a proprietary blend of potent active botanicals—green tea, eucalyptus, algae (kelp) and Irish moss extracts—with natural antiseptic properties, and neem seed oil, its deep cleansing action helps unclog and purify pores without stripping skin, while the invigorating eucalyptus-peppermint scent awakens the senses. Powerful glycolic and lactic acids help loosen and lift dead skin cells that can cause pore-clogging build-up. Instantly, the complexion is refreshed and balanced with a healthy-looking Ole Glow™! Deeply cleanses Reduces oil Purifies pores Noncomedogenic What I think: I can’t stress this enough but my skin is oily! This cleanser for me serves as both a cleanser and makeup remover. It leaves your pores tighten and feels minty fresh. It has a strong scent, close to eucalyptus but it smells refreshing if you like the eucalyptus minty scent. I use this in the morning and the night with my Vanity Planet spin brush, and it really gets into my pores. I did find that upon rinsing my skin, it can feel too tight at times and a little drying but I get that mostly in the morning if I scrub too hard. 2. Balancing Force-Oil Control Toner Claims:  Controls oil, helps minimize the appearance of pores and freshens skin This concentrated facial astringent effectively removes excess oil and refines pores—without stripping skin. It’s formulated with Green Fusion Complex™, a proprietary blend of potent active botanicals—green tea, eucalyptus, algae (kelp) and Irish moss extracts—with natural antiseptic properties. With a powerful blend of both BHA and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs)—salicylic, glycolic and lactic acids—and neem seed oil, its gentle clarifying action helps unclog, purify and minimize the appearance of pores. This refreshing toner features an energizing eucalyptus-peppermint scent. Instantly, the complexion is fresh and invigorated with a matte, healthy-looking Ole Glow™. Controls oil Helps minimize the appearance of pores Freshens skin Noncomedogenic What I think: This toner is the holy grails of holy grails! If you don’t buy anything else from this set, you have to buy this! Using this everyday has really helped my pores close and I think it’s the star player for oil control. I think this toner has to be on everyone’s bathroom counter! The fact that this contains salicylic acid makes this even better because it helps to smooth my acne. Gets no better than this! 3. Counter Balance- Oil control Hydrator   Claims:        Hydrates, controls oil, mattifies and reduces the appearance of pores       Finally, oily skin meets its matte. Developed as the product Ole wishes he had during his own struggle with oily skin, this lightweight, mattifying hydrator gives oily and combination skin types the essential moisture they crave. Oily skin needs hydration, too, to look its healthy best.       This innovative moisturizer is powered by Green Fusion Complex™, a proprietary blend of potent active botanicals—green tea, eucalyptus, algae (kelp) and Irish moss extracts—with natural antiseptic properties. Combined with neem seed oil and powerful alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), it helps keep pores clear and skin matte all day long while maintaining optimal hydration and a healthy balance. This groundbreaking formula also significantly improves the wear of foundation for up to 8 hours, making makeup meltdown a thing of the past. The complexion is soft, smooth and refreshed with a healthy-looking, matte Ole Glow™! Hydrates Controls oil Mattifies Reduces the appearance of pores Noncomedogenic In an independent, lab-verified study, Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator improved the wear of foundation for 8 hours.   What I think: Ok this is the star of the show when it comes to your glow up shorties! This has to be one of the lightest most moisturizing sets I have ever used when it comes to hydrating your skin. For most it mattifies the skin then the glow comes through, but for me it automatically has my skin glowing! It unfortunately doesn’t help my foundation wear, but that’s my only qualm. If I really needed something to have my foundation last it would be a bomb primer. I have been using this for about a month and half now and I truly can say this system is a keeper for my glowing days in the summer. It is totally worth the price and with twice a day use it can really last you about three months. You can find these bad boys at Sephora or even the Ole Henriksen’s website. Trust me, it is worth my investment, I even have some of my own family members using it. What skin care routine do you use for your glow up?

Laura Mercier Translucent Powder Review : Winning Wednesdays

*Post contains affiliate links Hello my Nearly Perfect Peeps! I have decided to start a new series where every Wednesday-ish I tell you all about some of the products that are a win in my book! This weeks winner…. Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder Shade Medium Deep Yes you all, Miss. Laura has struck gold in my book! Over the past years I have been contemplating whether or not I should buy this Laura Mercier setting powder, but trust me, when this medium deep color dropped late last year, it was a go! For those of you who are not quite familiar with the point of setting powder , let me drop a couple bullet points for you.   What do setting powders do? Setting powders, much like Laura Mercier Translucent setting powder, sets makeups in place! Mhmm chile’, that means your makeup ain’t go a gosh darn place for the day. Setting powders are also a God sent for people with oily skin like myself as it keeps the oils at bay. What does Laura Mercier have to say about this product? With multiple major awards and counting, Laura Mercier’s “best in beauty”, cult-favorite bestseller is your go-to setting powder. Loose powder feels luxuriously dense in the jar, feels incredibly soft and silky-light on your skin.  Pros love the super smooth application: goes on evenly, blends effortlessly, provides great wear. Sets makeup without adding weight or texture. Creates a modern matte finish with a touch of sheer coverage.  The translucent shade works on virtually all skin tones. Like all Laura Mercier Setting Powders, it has a soft-focus effect that subtly blurs the look of fine lines and imperfections. Doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores and never looks cakey.   How Much does Laura Mercier Translucent Powder cost? $38 bucks What do I say? Why is it a winner? Being a severely oily chick has it’s pros but most of the time it has my face looking like a used frying pan. I never thought I would EVER splurge on a product who’s cost could have bought a whole family a dinner at Chilli’s, but Laura Mercier Translucent Setting powder Deep Medium has been my saviour! It doesn’t win because of the price but it wins because of it’s ability to soak up all off my oil without leaving a white cast, or “ashy” look. The best part about this powder is the shade. It looks great over makeup and without makeup. It is so finely milled that it sits comfortably on your face! Who could ever say no to a product like this!?     Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder • Laura Mercier • $38 What’s winning for you today?

9 Lessons Learned from my Fitbit

During the last few years of my life, my graduate school years to be exact, there has been some struggle around maintaining my weight. With the stress of maintain grades and being the utmost best wife I could possibly be, it was so easy to neglect healthy options when it came to food. Between scrolling through the feed of unimaginable bodies with perfectly highlighted muscles on #fitfam and seeing my old high school colleagues make monumental changes in their body weight, I knew it was time for me to bring sexy back. So what was my first step? Buying a FitBit. No, this is not the only way to get fit, but I was coaxed into making it a great tool apart of my new healthy lifestyle. Who knew that 4 months later that my FitBit and I would have an Ike and Tina Turner kind of relationship. So what did I learn…. 1.     10000 thousands steps is not as easy as it seems. For those of us who have jobs that makes us pretty sedentary throughout the day, 10k steps will not be a cake walk. Sure the national heart organization thinks this is the average amount of steps one person should make in a day, but are you kidding me? That’s literally an hour and 37 minutes of walking at a steady pace! Who does this??? So this simply means you have to do some type of exercise in order to achieve 10k. Simply getting up to use the bathroom or cook amongst the other daily activities will not suffice. Though my tone is alarming it is not meant to be a deterring lecture, it is simple a wakeup call to get up and move!!   2.     My FitBit friends fat shame me Okay no they don’t, BUT every week I am invited by friends on FitBit to do a workweek challenge to see who has the most steps throughout a 5 day period, and trust me these people go hard! It is so easy to say ok, I will meet my 10k a day goal once you’ve mastered the art of time management and movement, but it is a whole other ball park when people wake up at 4am just to get in an extra three thousand steps to make it to first place. I am happy for you but guys you are making me feel horrible. Especially when your end of the week steps are 100k and I am at a measly 50k. Stop making me look bad! However they did help me lose 20 pounds fast! 3.     Fitbit offers great support systems On the days where I feel like I am not going to move any muscles except my thumb to Binge watch the latest 5 star show on Netflix, my FitBit friends have an opportunity to cheer the progress I have made so far. I write about their progress and mine here. I love when people cheer my progress as it gives me more motivation to do even better! However, there are also times where I may cheer someone else’s progress only to realize I am still in the dust and may need to get up and move. If you don’t have friends on FitBit, you can always check the community boards tab, While you are there you can check on the latest experiences people much like yourself are undergoing. I have found some great recipes on there that have become the latest craze for meals. 4.     I don’t sleep enough For the longest time, I did not wear my FitBit to sleep because I just thought it was all too weird for a watch to detect when I am sleeping. Currently, I still don’t wear it often, but the FitBit has great features that track your sleeping habits then creates an outline explaining how much sleep you need to burn calories. For the nights I do wear the device, it shows me that I am highly restless and my sleep patterns aren’t too great. 5.     The watch band is simply not a fashion statement I wear my Fitbit every day during the work week and I take a break on the weekends simply because I don’t like the feeling of something being on my wrist for long periods of time. In the beginning of my weight loss journey using my charge two, I found it difficult to wear everyday as I didn’t think it complimented my outfits, but little did I know that the bands are inter-changeable at an affordable price. One of my biggest struggles with the Fitbit was matching it with my attire, but I found an amazing seller on Amazon named GEAK, where I can purchase different watch bands at affordable prices. Sorry original fitbit website, there was no way I was going to hand out that kind of cash for a band! 6.     Having a FitBit is a second Job All jokes aside, this FitBit is my supervisor. It tells me when to get up, when to eat, when to drink and even when to go to bed! Who knew a FitBit would be so life controlling. Due to my goal to lose ten pounds by June, I have to input everything I eat into the Health diary on the app which is tedious but helpful. FitBit  needs to pay me for all this work! Or I suppose my pay is the weight I lose due to my commitment to logging and listening to my FitBit 7.     Calories are just calories As Syattfitness states from Instagram, calories are just calories. No matter if you are eating baked kale or french fries, the calories in each of these items are equal, neither calories are good or bad; and the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume! No I am not saying fries are healthier than Kale but I

Summer products for Natural Hair

*Originally posted 7/8/11 Dry hair, have no fear, your favorite summer product is near! This summer as your hair is drying out, and you want to look great in your vacation photos, please don’t blame your moisturizer’s incompetency. Often times we tell ourselves, “I am never buying this product again, it sucks.” Most moisturizers are tailored to suit different hair needs, and different weather conditions, which is no fault of the brand who created the product. If it were anyone’s, it would be the buyer, for not being knowledgeable. If your hair moisturizer’s main ingredient isn’t water and glycerin than you may have a problem. Dryer times call for more ingredients that actually fill the hair follicles with excessive moisturizer. The two main ingredients you may want to look for in products are water and glycerin. We all know what water is so let me tell you what glycerin is: Glycerin is a neutral, sweet-tasting, colorless, thick liquid which freezes to a gummy paste and has a high boiling point. Glycerin can be dissolved into water or alcohol, but not oils. On the other hand, many things will dissolve into glycerin easier than they do into water or alcohol. So it is a good solvent. According to Pioneer thinker: Glycerin is also highly “hygroscopic” which means that it absorbs water from the air. Example: if you left a bottle of pure glycerin exposed to air in your kitchen, it would take moisture from the air and eventually, it would become 80 per glycerin and 20 percent water. Because of this hygroscopic quality, pure, 100 percent glycerin placed on the tongue may raise a blister, since it is dehydrating. Diluted with water, however, it will soften your skin. (Note: While people say this softening is the result of the glycerin attracting moisture to your skin, there is heated debate as to whether or not the glycerin has some other properties all its own which are helpful to the skin. Summed up, the current thinking is “We know glycerin softens the skin. SourceWhat does this mean? This means that glycerin is our friend! It helps our hair strands promote moisture. So before you go and buy another moisturizer why not just buy glycerin, mix it with that free water you have waiting to burst out of your faucets and save yourself some money! You don’t want your hair weighed down with unnecessary heavy hair products anyway.I typically find my glycerin in a local hair store or Walmart. Summer doesn’t have to mean spending money on new hair products, but instead it just means you have improvise and take those vacation photos with hair that shine!

Guest Post: Best Oils for Natural Hair

The Best Natural Oils For Your Hair Type (All photo credits: commons.wikimedia.org) Guest post by: Aubrey Ginsberg with http://www.girlswithnaturalhair.com Natural oils are cherished for their health and wellness benefits. You will find natural oils in many beauty products as well. A multitude of hair care products boasting natural and essential oils, line the shelves at every supermarket, department store, and salon. So how can you know which products will be a perfect match with your hair? There are so many types of hair combinations and it’s important to find the right oils to achieve your desired results. Natural oils generally work for dry and frizzy hair. Thinning hair, fine hair, or flat thin hair can be improved with certain natural oils as well. Is your hair very curly? Are you of African descent? Then you know the importance of oils. If you use chemicals such as relaxers, permanents, or hair dyes, you will want to frequently use oils to replenish the lost moisture from chemical treatments. Argan Oil: Best Natural Oil For Dry, Damaged, Unmanageable Hair You may see all the products that boast Argan Oil infusion for every hair problem imaginable. So what is the hidden secret? Well, normally the fatty acids in every oil will replenish moisture but this oil also has omega 3s and Vitamin E. These substances infuse the hair with moisture and strength. You do not need much of this at all, just a small amount or simply just coat your comb or pick with a light coating of Argan oil, and work through wet detangled hair after shampooing. Pay close attention to the ends of hairs. They are generally drier than areas closer to the scalp. You can find Argan Oil here Coconut Oil: Best Natural Oil For Dry Scalp And Hair Coconut Oil is good for both hair and skin. It’s perfect if you like that tropical coconut scent. Your hair will smell luxurious, and look just as fine! First, it exfoliates with natural lauric acid then remove unwanted flakes. It strengthens both the root of the hair and the entire shaft with a strong dose of Vitamin E, and several other beneficial nutrients. Over time, this strengthening of the root can make your hair appear fuller and more voluminous. Should your hair be damaged from heat styling and chemicals, you can be confident that coconut oil improves the texture and moisture in your hair. It helps to tame flyaway and split ends, reducing the appearance of frizz. For extra smooth hair and a flake free scalp, make coconut oil a part of your daily hair care routine.Check out some coconut oil here Grape Seed Oil: Best Value Natural Oil For Volume, And Styling Grape seed oil adds the same value to our hair and skin as coconut oil. We like grapeseed oil, because it gives many of the same benefits of coconut oil without the higher price, and without the coconut scent. Believe it or not, some people don’t want to smell like coconuts! Grape seed oil is made for those ones. Grape Seed oil hydrates the skin, and the scalp reducing flakiness, and fighting dandruff. The moisturization benefit to the scalp actually promotes the growth of new hair. If your hair is often unruly, frizzy, dry, or damaged, grape seed oil may be just the perfect solution. In addition to the moisturizing and strengthening benefits, grapeseed oil just may be your new favorite styling product. As grapeseed oil is a lightweight oil, you can use it to create all sorts of styles without the undesired greasiness and weight of other heavier oils. This can help to give volume to thick heavy hair, or a  give a visual boost to flat falling hair.Have you bought your rapeseed oil yet? Check some out here Avocado Oil: Best Oil For Nourishing Damaged Frizzy Hair You might know that avocados are known as a superfood for their dietary nutritional benefits. They are absolutely packed with essential nutrients and healthy fatty acids. The avocado oil is full of the Vitamins E, D, B6, and A that your hair needs for strength. Plus it has potassium, amino acids, and lecithin for an extra dose of strengthening benefits. Oil extracted from avocados is packed full both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. This type of lipid generally remains in hair for longer time, so you can enjoy the smoothing and shining benefits of avocado oils throughout the day into the evening. If you have frizzy hair that doesn’t respond well to humidity, you will want to make sure to use avocado oil or avocado infused products as part of your daily styling routine. This is the best oil for smoothing flyaway and breakage. Find some avocado oil here Rosemary Essential Oil: Best Natural Oil For Thinning and Aging Hair Rosemary is a power herb used in cooking, aromatherapy, holistic healing practices, and many hair care products for thinning hair. You will most likely wish to dilute a small amount of rosemary oil in another scent free oil, such as extra virgin olive oil. The scent of rosemary is so strong that it is not recommended to use pure rosemary oil. This oil cleans very well, removing much of the small particles of dirt that can be trapped in thinning hair. Nature seems to have provided all things you need, even for your hair. If you are concerned about how to care best for your hair, try these products from mother nature. Make sure you understand your hair condition, then your work now is to use and enjoy the result. You can purchase rosemary oil here

Changing what you’ve done…. FL: For me, it’s not always about doing a BC (big chop), you don’t always have to result to that. I come up with style that help women transition without cutting off all their hair…the styles are natural looking that help them see themselves in a natural way without cutting off their hair. Whether they are transitioning or not transitioning I give them hair styles so they can see their hair natural. The word transitioning means, changing what you have already done and going with a new routine. There is a difference between those transitioning and those trying stuff (there are those who just wear their hair straight). Transition means actually making a change and transferring over versus playing with your hair. NH: I understand that you are a natural hair specialist… what made you interested in taking up such a task? FL: When I went to cosmetology school and they were teaching us how to press hair, I never really liked pressing hair or getting my hair pressed. It hurt it burned it was uncomfortable. As a hair stylist and coming out of cosmetology school, I never really like the smoke going into my body. So as a stylist standing over somebody anything you do, you are going to breathe it first before the client. So for me I really didn’t care for smelling the burnt hair, the Smokey hair… Now don’t get me wrong I do have clients that go between straightening their hair with a flat iron and natural styles…If I’m not perming their hair they are getting it blown out and flat iron with a ceramic iron than… they would go right back to their fro. NH: How do you feel about product Junkies? Do you believe in having just one staple product? FL: In the workshop, I always tell them to find three products and styles that really work for them. It’s okay if you go out and try other things, you will always have those three other things that will be faithful to you. My three top things that I like are Jane Carter Solution, carol’s daughter, and Karen’s body’s beautiful with her sweet ambrosia and her lavender vanilla jojoba oil. Those are really my top three staples…when it comes to PJ if you have the finances to be a PJ that’s great. If you don’t you should make a hair budget, so that if you know there is a product you want…put it on a list, make list you want to try and get your money you can try them. If you have a bunch of products that don’t work for you, get a bunch of friends together and swap products so they don’t go to waste. NH: I am a Natural myself, but sometimes I strong with my hair because I feel as if there isn’t much you can do with a TWA, I know there are probably plenty of ladies that feel this way, what advice would you give to ladies that feel the same way? FL: Accessorize… you can wear really cute feather head bands..you can wrap your hair and condition it well underneath…and then there is this style method after you wash and condition it you take a dry towel and go around your head in small circles clockwise around the whole head and what you will see are curly balls forming. Instead of having a fro picked out you can have texture with the towel. Sometimes people start locking their hair that way… NH: What is your overall view on hair? Do you think Natural is the way? FL: I feel that people have choice, but I think we have to check in with ourselves and see how we feel about ourselves instead of our hair. How we feel about ourselves will determine how we feel about our hair. If

Deep Condition on Dry Hair

If you are anything like me, a lazy natural girl, then you like to reduce the amount of time you have to allot to do your hair. For me, this means that I deep condition my hair before a wash when it’s dry. Yep Dry! This method has worked for me, for quite some time and gives me the great same results as if I were to do it post wash. On days where I do have more time I try to deep condition after a wash but that’s mostly on days where I do a clay treatment first on my hair. Eden Body Works EDEN BodyWorks JojOba Monoi Deep Conditioner – 16 oz • $8.99 To deep condition my hair when it is dry, I just make sure to have my spray bottle handy filled with aloe vera juice and water. I like to use 3 parts water and one part aloe vera juice. The Aloe vera juice helps to open and smooth my cuticles so that it absorbs the conditioner and balance my hair pH.
