As a budding therapist, I am always researching material that I may find helpful in the counseling environment. I surprisingly stumbled upon something called [The And] Project, an interactive documentary, that takes a different perspective on relationships. Couples are put into a room and are asked various questions, that one may find uncomfortable. I have watched many of these videos on their channel however bellow I have listed two of my favorite projects from the series. One features ex’s of two years who are facing one another again for the first time and the other features a couple who has been together for 7 years. Take a look! A month ago, in May, my best friend notified me about a new tool that is soon to hit the market in August. Of course I was interested because he told me it was a straightening tool, and no I ain’t afraid of no heat! Little did I know that this tool was heat free!So after I did a little research I was sold. I became a backer for the CWK straight plates. God has blessed me with money however not so much to be a top contributor. I contributed $45 to the campaign and yes the notion to start the production of these plates have left the base.I am so excited for what is to come of these products, the prototype looks amazing.I think her kickstarter page explains better than I could ever do so check out the full details here! A perk to be a backer is that I get to get a set of the plates before it hits shelves, so trust me, a review is to come in a couple months. What do you ladies, or men think? Would you purchase it? Though many movie critics and general spectators view Tyler Perry’s latest “play turned movie”, Temptation,overly dramatic for a melodramatic film, I differ in opinions. The beginning of the movie was less than slow, compared to other Perry hits. Perry primes the audiences with the perspective “You never know what you have until it is gone” cliché proverb. He chooses the main character to deliver this concept to the viewers, whom are the eyes and ears of the main character’s client, making the audience a third person in the movie. Because of the audience’s third wall, as filmmakers like to call it, the main character refers to herself in third person. The subtle inclusion of time jumps was just enough to sink the message and story line Perry was producing to the viewers’ attention. Yes, the film was dramatic, but you should know what you are diving into upon ticket retrieval. Its Tyler Perry for heaven’s sake. However, the drama is reality for most people in urban communities. Correct, I said urban, because that is where most of the relatable incidences that occurred in this film befall in communicates such as those. No, the people in the film were not based in that sort of environment, but at an elementary level, it is easy for the viewers to detect the “struggle” the characters were facing. All too many times, people from urban settings fall prey to Perry’s painted predicament in the film. These same real people can never seem to build up the fortitude to crawl out. This Perry drama is telling the story for minorities out there trying not to settle. For those of you, who view the film; will understand what I am trying to get across without telling the film line. I personally loved the way Perry set up the film. After taking one film class (all you need is one to be an expert lol), I understand the making of a good film. The 2climatic moments of the film were not as predictable as I expected them to be but rather empathetic and captivating. As for the characters… clap clap bravo, because both men and women would appreciate the eye candy presented on screen just like any other Perry production. There were even cast members outside of Perry’s typical casting line, which I believe brought more life to the film. If you are looking for a film that will purge genuine tears without a typical ending, don’t resist the temptation this time to view Temptation.
via iheartmyhair Over the past few days we’ve witnessed regression and repression of epic portions as it relates to politics in academia. Although women in Iran have made great strides in academia in the country over the past few years, both in terms of outnumbering and achieving successful academic results over men – 36 of Iran’s universities have authorized the barring of women from enrolling in courses in designated fields. Well, if that isn’t a blow to the proverbial head, then I don’t know what is. To add insult to injury, much closer to home – the Dean of Hampton University’s Business School Sid Credle has staid a controversial decision that has been in place at the school since 2001, one that bans men [who are enrolled in the five-year program] from wearing locks or cornrows. As reported by ABC, Credle is fixed on the idea that the requirement better assists men in obtaining jobs when they are looking to successfully climb the corporate latter, as it is important to him for students to “look the part”. Interestingly or not so interestingly, Credle had this to say about the entire debacle: “When was it that cornrows and dreadlocks were part of African-American history.” He adds, “I mean Charles Drew didn’t wear it; Muhammad Ali didn’t wear it; Martin Luther king didn’t wear it.” Pic Source To read more on this situation read here
