Dear Toni, We made it!! It’s our 6 month together and I am proud to say it loud… I LOVE YOU!! Like in any good realtionship we have had fights and disputes…but in the end we always tried to piece things together. I am sorry for denying you the first month and pretending like you didnt exsist. Using all types of excuses to not introduce you to my friends. But im past that. And all though its cold out and i can’t see you on our anniversary, please know that i still love you, with all my heart. I hope you (and I both) enjoy This Chrisette Michelle’s Album ‘Let Freedom Reign’ as a gift. I will see you in two weeks baby! Thanks for being there always, despite what others said. Love, Cia
After the removal of Eve(my yarn braids), I saw it fit to treat my hair. Why? It has been approx 4 weeks since a DC. Big no no when it comes to natural hair. I decided to take two different routes in my hair treatment. I first did a Benonite treatment and then a Deep conditioning treatment. Being the great friend I am I gave my regular DC conditioner away, and had to make use of the resources i had to makeup for the lost Deep conditioner. You can follow my journey with this treatment below. ___________________________________________________________ Bentonite Clay Treatnent: 2 tbsp of Bentonite clay 2 tbs of water Mix the two substances together well, and apply all over head with your hands or maybe a utensil. You must be fast when using the clay because it tends to dry fast. I left the clay on my head for 15 mins and rinsed immediately with warm water. I followed with my Giovnni Shampoo and cowashed with suave naturals. I could not stop the process there. If a DC was not to follow the Bentonite clay treatment, they may have caused me some serious long term issues. The Clay did leave my hair shiny and less frizzy, not to mention soft, but the purpose of the clay is to purify and it is not to be used to compensate for regaining moisture. _____________________________________________________________ Deep Conditioner Treatment: 1 egg yolk 1 tbs honey 2tbs on cheap conditioner Mix these ingredients well in a bowl Apply over your hair and cover. You can choose to leave it in over night or however many hours you feel your hair will need. Be sure to cover with a cap, or a plastic bag as i have. An Voila! Your done =) Tip: Always be sure to Deep condition after long periods of protective styles. Hair tends to lose moisture after a long period of time and needs treatment to give it that full, bouncy healthy look.
I finally let go of Eve last week. It was a bitter sweet moment but I did miss Toni. Surprisingly releasing the Yarn braids were fairly easy. All i had to do is cut the ends of probably inches away from my hair and start to pull it out. Unlike regular pull outs of braids, I pulled the ends of the yarn and it unraveled. It was like magic. In total it took me about 3 and a half hours to pull out. That was awesome for me compared to the 18 hours it took me to do…. I have just a few farewell pics of my yarn braids(Eve) and then my Toni braided after I took them out. You can also check out the video I found on youtube on how to take out yarn braids. There will be a full review coming soon on Yarn Braids and the pros and cons. Tip: Before unraveling spray a misture of conditioner and water onto the braid for an easier slip
Never thought that question would feel so good! After 18 hours of hard work my head is looking like I loc’ed it up! Can you say mission accomplished? That’s right guys I finally did my yarn braids… the best part was that I did it on my own! I am feeling so good about myself too. I often get stopped and people ask if the Africans did my hair and I say no, but this is of course after I convince them I didn’t grow these dreads! Lol The minute I finished my last braid I felt relieved as if I had just finished giving birth. All I know is that I am going to try my hardest to keep these braids in even though I miss Toni already =/ I have so many plans for Eve and I… Who is Eve? The alias of Toni of course… Eve is a name that stands for “living.” Living is definitely what I am doing and Toni as well, even though she is covered in this protective style. Protective styles are styles that required your ends to be tucked away. These styles can range from pony tails, to wigs, buns, hair extensions etc you get the idea. This styling helps to improve healthy growth and ensure less breakage. It isn’t a easy pass though not to take care of your hair. Even though it is in a protective style it is still important to Deep condition and moisturizer your hair daily! It is a great style for you transitioning divas and those transitioning into the winter months with their natural hair. My yarn braids are shoulder length (somewhat). I burned the ends and added just a few strands of brown to give it a highlighted effect! I am in love with these things guys! Some Pros of Yarn Braids: -They are light weight -El Cheapo! -Leaves your hair soft -Very Manageable -Versatile Cons: Non so far! As I go deeper into my relationship with Eve I will keep you guys posted! Here is a video by BlackOnyx that I followed to do my yarn braids
“Toni and I” Knowing your hair is one of the best feelings you can experience whether you are a natural or not. You know the saying, what may work for you may not work for me! Well it is true. I have been so caught up in the media aspect of natural hair and scoping all the best selling products, which by the way has been running my pockets dry!, I have been ignoring what my hair really responds to. I often times try a product and then wait for the outcome of something glorious, which never happens! I always think it’s me but on reality it is my hair not responding to what is actually being used. It is month four of my first BC (month 2 for my second) and you know how you read about articles on ‘post BC dryness’? I definitely experienced that and still do. Now I always thought that it would pass but now it has seem to have gotten worse so it was time to stop drop and listen! I went to curly nikki’s forum and posted “help I have dryness syndrome” and the amount of responses I received were all helpful. But there was one in particular that actually made a difference. A fellow forum member suggested that my hair may not like the ingredients in the products I use… hmm sounds fitting right? It turns out that I had been using a product in my hair that Toni didn’t like much. What was that product? Hello Hydration conditioner. In the beginning I never really noticed what the problem was but after my switch to a different conditioner it was the feeling of a new beginning. Hello Hydration may work as a wonderful conditioner for some because some people’s hairs don’t mind cones…Toni on the other hand…. Its like Iraq and America. Cones just don’t work for my hair anymore which is why this month my duty to Toni is to sift out the products in my product bin that contain Cones! In no time Toni and I may be looking healthier than ever!

I think it is time for an upgrade! I have so many people come up to me and say I want to be natural! And I always encourage it, but now it’s time to pump up the volume and give them a little more inspiration. I want to log my hair journey. Yes, this blog is supposed to do that, but I find myself going on many tangents so I may need a separate device to keep my journey on point! I think I may utilize my Fotki… I know that is what truly inspired me when I started to go natural with different users photo albums so it’s time to bring in my own photos. I rarely pay attention to my growth BUT it is becoming more noticeable because you can start to see the black growth over my colored hair! I am so excited to see where this is going. I guess I have just been so caught up with school where I am not really experimenting with my hair, which can be a good thing. I think my hair grows more when its not tampered. Any who, I am going to start to record my hair journey weekly just to give everyone an update or even to keep my progress recorded to see where I have come from! Be on the lookout because my hair diary is on the rise! #oww
