When did you decide to throw the relaxer out (if you did)?
I decided to start my journey to natural hair in February 2009.
What was your support system like once you went natural?
My support system was pretty much non-existent when I decided to go natural. One of my friends even told me they thought my hair would be ugly.
How would you describe your hair journey so far?
This journey has not only been one on which I’ve learned to love my hair but also one on which I’ve learned to love myself more. It is very important to have self-confidence when transitioning or when you decide to big chop. I used to use my hair as a security blanket.
What products work best for your hair?
Currently I’m using: my own special mix of Shea Butter, Cantu Shea Butter Leave In, Mango & Lime Lock/Twist Gel, IC Fantasia Gel, Olive Oil Root Stimulator Replenishing Packs, Kinky Curly Knot Today, EVOO, LeKair Cholesterol Plus, Eco Styler Gel, Suave Almond & Shea Butter Shampoo/Conditioner.
When it comes to your hair, what do you find most challenging?
I am a very impatient person and in order to have natural hair I feel as though a person must have a great deal of patience.
What keeps you motivated (pertaining to life/work(blogging/ your shop)/or hair)?
Loving myself is a great motivator, loving what I do and how I take care of things and how I live my life. Those things keep me very motivated.
Natural hair today maybe be considered out of the norm, even though your hair is lovely what is the craziest remark you have received about your hair?
I had someone tell me that I should style my hair a different way if I intended to get a particular job. She also said that natural hair wasn’t considered professional.
Any advice to the aspiring successful natural haired women out there/closing remarks?
Learn patience! Own your hair and work it out! Remember you are in control!
