#NaturalHair and Dry Scalp

For the past 7 Months of me being Natural, I have never experienced Dry itchy Hair. I almost thought that the reason I had dandruff was because of my hair being relaxed. Yup I was wrong. My head is beginning to itch as if It has developed Chicken Pox. See I live in a fairly mixed weather region. Right about this times the weather can range between -10 to 50 degrees. Lately It has been on the low end.

In colder climates, hair can become dry flaky and itchy because of the imbalance of moisture that are being drawn from the scalp. With moisture being absent, flakes may occur but it doesnt mean that you have to purchase anti dandruff products to correct the problem.

So what to do?

  • Watch What you eat: Sometimes our diets play an important role in our hair as well. Try to increase your intake of fatty acids. Eating a little more avocados could help correct the problem
  • Don’t turn the heat on way high: and overly dry area can increase the damage in depleting the oils/ moisture in your scalp
  • Avoid highly scented shampoos and conditioners: These products are often times high in silicones and alcohol that causes drying
  • Try using a Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse: This helps cleanse your scalp and restore Ph balance as well. Do not exceed with rinse over 3 a period of a week.
  • Jojoba Oil: This oil best replicates your skin’s natural oil, so try oiling your scalp twice a week with this to restore balance
  • Wear a hat or a scarf: Cover your head from the harsh cold climates
  • Deep Condition: I can’t stress enough how vial this is..so just do it!!
  • Take your Vitamins!
